Early Detection of Breast Cancer


Abstract
The breast cancer is the 3rd most common cancer and now increasing in Korea.
There are three main categories for risk factors of breast cancer development, i.e genetic factor, hormonal factor, environmental factor. But there is few that one can control to prevent the breast cancer. So it is important to detect the cancer
in
early stage, in other words, secondary prevention. Three kinds of diagnostic method are encouraged for early detection: breast self examination(BSE), breast physical examination and mammography. All of these are not independent but complementary.
@ES According to NCI, the guidelines are as follows:
@EN 1 Clinical examination of the breast and mammography are the basic detection methods. The examinations are complementary and both are necessary to achieve maximum detection rates.
2. It is recommended that the screening process begin by 40 years of age and consist of annual clinical examinations with screening mammography performed at 1-year to 2-year mtervals.
3. Beginning at 50 years of age, both clinical examination and mammography should be performed n an annual basis.
4. The recommendations apply only to women without signs or symptoms of breast cancer; the frequency and type of examination will vary for the individual with symptoms and should be determined by the responsible physician.
